Tony Rackauckas

Chairman, OC GRIP
Orange County District Attorney-Public Administrator

District Attorney Tony Rackauckas has dedicated over 40 years in service to Southern California and Orange County. His career as a civil servant began in 1968, as a social worker in the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services. In 1972, Tony joined the Orange County District Attorney’s office, where he served for 15 years as a deputy district attorney.

In 1990, after briefly working in private practice, he was appointed as a Municipal Court Judge by Governor George Deukmejian. Three years later, Governor Pete Wilson appointed Tony to the Superior Court, and he was named Presiding Judge of its Appellate Department in 1996.

Tony was elected to the office of District Attorney in 1998. Having been reelected three consecutive times, he is now entering his 16th year in office. Tony ran unopposed for his third and fourth terms.

Known to his peers and constituents as a “tough, no-nonsense DA” that “has not just talked the talk, (but) walked the walk,” he has remained steadfast in his commitment to increasing public safety and welfare throughout Orange County.

Recognizing the need to take preventative action and make resources available to children before they are introduced to the violence and crime of gang life, Mr. Rackauckas and members from his office initiated the Orange County Gang Reduction Intervention Partnership.

“The mission of OC GRIP is to prevent targeted at-risk minors from joining criminal street gangs, enable them to graduate from high school free from destructive activities and behavior, and encourage them to go on to college. We believe that this is one of the most important efforts in Orange County – for our future and for our community.”
